DR A & MAMA DOON

DR A & MAMA DOON

Dr A and Mama Doon have had more than ten years’ experience in African-style drumming and dance, visiting Ghana, West Africa for further study.

They have performed regularly at events such as festivals, parades, conferences, weddings, and theme parties.  The drums they use are from west Africa and include the hand drum, or djembe, and the large drums, the dun duns.  Their performance is a fusion derived from their own interpretation of west-African drumming and dance.

DR A and Mama Doon were the founding members of DOONCHICKS, an all-female percussion and dance group (2005 – 2011), and now work independently as well as with other groups.

Dr A is an experienced teacher and performer, trained in Physical Education, with a specialization in dance.  She holds an MA in Dance from UCLA and a Phd in Social Ecology from UWS on performance-ritual.  She has taught in schools, universities and in the community.
Mama Doon has had a long career as a professional visual artist, having exhibited in Australia and overseas since 1967.  Her work encompasses a broad range of mediums, ranging from works on paper and canvass, to collage, print, glass, masks, installations and installation for performance.

Available for interactive performances and workshops for small business and community groups.
